Sunrise and sunset times

Sunrise, sunset, civil twilight, golden hour and total day length for any major city — plus a live countdown of how much daylight is left today. Everything is calculated in your browser from the date and the city's coordinates, so it works offline and nothing about your location is ever sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are the times?

They are calculated with the standard NOAA solar position formulas and are typically within a minute of official tables. Local terrain, altitude and unusual refraction can shift the real horizon by a minute or two.

Does it need my location?

No. Pick any city from the list and everything is computed in your browser. You can optionally share your device location for exact local times, and nothing is uploaded either way.

What is golden hour?

The period when the sun sits below about 6 degrees of altitude, giving soft, warm light. Tickline shows the morning golden hour after sunrise and the evening one before sunset.

What happens above the Arctic Circle?

In midnight sun or polar night the sun never crosses the horizon, so instead of a time the page says the sun is up or down all day.
